The first time that I heard The Very Best, I couldn’t help but think “Shit, this sounds a lot like Paul Simon.” Which was fine, I like that Graceland music, and it was innovative compared to most of the stuff that graced my ears that day. This is party music, it’s tough to remix a party, and even tougher putting your own stamp on it. Alan Wilkis has grabbed this one and boosted up the 80′s appeal– keeping the party in the track– while still giving his own interpretation of the piece. That’s all you can really ask of a good remix, isn’t it? Adding New Jack melodies, contemporary synth-lines and a gut dropping back beat, the Brooklyn-based producer will have your head nodding throughout the entire 3 minutes and 17 seconds, which is never a bad thing.
